
Six years after enrolling in an immunotherapy clinical trial for stage IV triple-negative breast cancer at 四色AV Langone鈥檚 Perlmutter Cancer Center, Maribel Ramos remains cancer-free.

In 2015, Maribel Ramos was diagnosed for the fourth time with cancer. This time, it was stage IV triple-negative breast cancer. In an effort to avoid additional chemotherapy and radiation, Ms. Ramos enrolled in a evaluating an immunotherapy drug called atezolizumab at 四色AV Langone Health鈥檚 Perlmutter Cancer Center. Now cancer-free for six years, Ms. Ramos tells her survivorship story to the Cancer Research Institute.
鈥淚鈥檇 want to let other cancer patients know that sometimes we need to take risks,鈥 Ms. Ramos says. 鈥淚 know it鈥檚 hard, but don鈥檛 be scared. Trust the doctors, choose the medicine, and advocate for yourself.鈥
