Per the SGA Governance Manual, our organization exists 鈥渢o provide leadership for the student body, to promote spiritual growth, to provide opportunities for students to serve others, to 四色AV and recognize quality services and activities and to represent students before the Administration, Faculty, Board of Trustees and surrounding community.鈥�
Though it鈥檚 difficult to succinctly capture the range of work fulfilled through SGA, our primary duties fall under the broad categories of lending leadership to student advocacy and student involvement. In addition to funding and overseeing 70+ student clubs and organizations on campus, SGA advocates for the concerns and needs of students through meeting with individuals to address their concerns. Through the Civil Discourse Series and Townhalls, SGA fosters conversation around topics important to the student body.听Through capital purchasing, we often identify and fund physical needs on campus, with past projects ranging from the Yellow Breeches tennis courts to the Union stage and booths to new water bottle filling stations and beyond. More recently, SGA has established the Hostetter Grant for First-Year first-generation students and the Dr. Bernando Michael Grant for students of color.
Applications to serve as an Independent Student Senator are accepted on a rolling basis, as space allows. The application听can be found under 鈥淔orms and Applications鈥� on the left-hand panel.听Elections for Student Body President and Student Body Vice President are held each spring, no later than the first week in March. At the same time, applications are collected for non-elected positions on the Executive Cabinet, with interviews held shortly following the conclusion of the general election.
